ScaleXtreme makes it easy to bring existing servers on cloud provider accounts under management with an auto-install function that installs the ScaleXtreme agent on existing servers in a few easy steps. You can auto-install the agent on any Windows or Linux server currently running on any public cloud provider account linked to ScaleXtreme, including Amazon EC2, Rackspace, Bluelock, and more.
Note that the auto-installer detects all required login information and automatically executes the agent installation script on each server. No special action or configuration is required. To complete the installation however you will need to provide the credentials that enable access to each server, such as a common username/password; or, if using key pairs to enable access (as EC2 does), you must upload the private key (.pem) file associated with the machine. For EC2, ScaleXtreme automatically attempts to login as the default "ec2-user." Thus, if your server on EC2 is setup with a different Username, you must also specify the Username in the field provided.
In addition, to auto-install the agent on Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 servers, you must first configure the Windows machines to allow access. For configuration instructions, see Configuring Win2008/2008 R2 for Auto-install. Once your Windows machine is configured to allow access, you can auto-install the agent by providing the Username (Administrator) and decrypted Administrator Password, which you can get via the EC2 console by supplying the private key file associated with the instance. For more information on EC2 Key Pairs, see Working with EC2 Key Pairs.
To auto-install the agent on an existing server:
In the Manage menu, click on the (+) symbol next to the Clouds icon to see your cloud provider accounts. Then, click on the specific cloud provider account you wish to access. The Summary page appears, showing the number of existing servers not under management (and thus requiring installation of the ScaleXtreme agent to bring under management).

Click on "Install agent on existing servers." The Manage Instance window opens showing the name, IP address, and status of the existing servers not under management.

Choose the instance(s) on which you wish to install the agent. Click Install Agent.

Enter the credentials that enable access to the server(s). This may be a username and password and/or a private key file (.pem) that you must upload from your local machine (which was downloaded when you created the key pair associated with the machine). Note that Scalextreme communicates with Linux servers over ssh port 22 (for agent installation only), thus network rules (i.e., security groups in ec2) must be set to allow access to the server over port 22. (Once the agent is installed, all further communication between the server and ScaleXtreme occurs over outbound https, so you can shutdown the inbound port 22, if desired.)

Click Install Agent. The agent is installed on the selected servers. A green check mark appears indicating that the agent has been installed successfully and the server is now being managed by Scalextreme.
