Possible reasons you cannot connect to a machine through ScaleXtreme:

  1. The ScaleXtreme agent is stopped. To start the agent: Run the appropriate "start" command for your OS, as shown:

    Windows:

Start menu > All Programs > ScaleXtreme > Start Scalextreme Service

    Debian/Ubuntu:

    /etc/init.d/scalextreme start

    RHEL/CentOS/Fedora:

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/mitosd start

Note that when you install the ScaleXtreme Agent, it is automatically started. For information on installing the ScaleXtreme Agent, see: Setting Up Your Machines . For additional information, including instructions for reinstalling the agent from RPM and DEB packages from scratch, please see our Support Forum: Installing the ScaleXtreme Agent.

  2. The ScaleXtreme agent does not have outbound https access. This may be due to firewall rules or other network configurations blocking outbound access from the agent to the ScaleXtreme server. To resolve this issue: Make sure firewall rules permit outbound traffic and that your machine can access the public network (Internet). Please ensure that your environment where the agent is installed can ping the ScaleXtreme server, as shown:

    # ping manage.scalextreme.com
