Before you can auto-install the ScaleXtreme agent on Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 machines on EC2 and Rackspace, you must first configure Windows to allow access, as shown below.

Note that inbound access to your Windows server is only required to install the agent. Once the agent is installed, ScaleXtreme communicates with the cloud over outbound HTTPs and inbound access can be shut down. The licensing related warning message "You need to be connected to a Terminal Services License Server within 120 Days," can be safely disregarded.

To configure Windows 2008 for agent auto-install:

Click Start > Administrative Tools > Server Manager > Roles.  If the TS RemoteApp Manager is not listed under Roles, then first perform these steps:

  • Right-click Roles > Add Roles > Server Roles > Select Terminal Services > Select Terminal Server and click Next.
  • Select "Do not require Network Level Authentication" and click Next.
  • Select "Configure later" and click Next. (User Groups) click Next. (Client Experience) click Next. (Confirmation) click Install. Click Close.
  • A prompt appears: Do you  want to restart now? Click Yes.

Logon again and proceed with the following steps:

  • Start > Administrative Tools > Server Manager > Roles > Terminal Services.
  • Select TS RemoteApp Manager. The TS RemoteApp Manager appears.
